At the Vännäs Motor Museum both old engines and new visitors come alive, and that says something about the town – daily life and movement meet here. Vännäs is the main town of Vännäs municipality and lies a good thirty kilometres west of Umeå in Västerbotten. It is a railway junction where the Main Line through Upper Norrland connects with the line towards Umeå and Holmsund, so the train has always been part of the pulse here.
Around the centre's shops and clubs there is an upper secondary school, a hotel and a small-town mood easy to recognise. And just outside, nature takes over: the Vinbäck and Trinnan nature reserves draw anyone wanting to get out, while Kronberget, Flakaberget and Hemberget stand as fixed points in the landscape.
It is perhaps exactly the shift between district and forest that makes Vännäs Vännäs – the trains passing, the silence in the Trinnan nature reserve, the feeling of belonging. For you who grew up here or often return, the map of the town becomes a small way of carrying that feeling with you, wherever you are.
