About Timrå
Main town of Timrå municipality
Neighbour to Sundsvall
Forested hills
Around Timrå, hills such as Orsillberget and Edsgårdsberget rise out of the forest, and it is that alternation between buildings and wilderness that gives the town its character. Timrå is the main town of Timrå municipality, in the middle of Medelpad, and lies so close to Sundsvall that the two now count as one and the same urban area. Many who live here commute into the neighbouring town day to day, but still turn home towards the side where the horizon is made of spruce forest.
Head out from the centre and you soon come across heights such as Fummelråberget, Nybräntberget and Bräntberget – names that say something about how close nature lies up here in Västernorrland.
For anyone who grew up along these roads the map is already in the memory: the way to school, the stream behind the house, the view from one of the hills. Seeing Timrå drawn on a piece of cloth becomes a way of carrying exactly that feeling with you, however far away life has happened to take you.
