About Tanumshede
The Tanum rock carvings
A UNESCO World Heritage site
Bohuslän
Few places carry prehistory as plainly in the rock as Tanumshede. Here, in the main town of Tanum municipality, spreads one of northern Europe's most remarkable rock carving areas – so much so that the Tanum rock carvings are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Images cut into stone thousands of years ago still meet you in the landscape.
Around the town you find traces of those who lived here long before us: the Fossum rock carvings and the mighty Stora Stenen at Vitlycke, the passage grave at Säm, the stone cist at Bjornemyren and the Kalleby stone. The position is convenient too – just west of the E6, roughly halfway between Oslo and Gothenburg, with the coastal communities of Grebbestad and Fjällbacka within reach.
Wear this shirt and you take with you a piece of Bohuslän prehistory, cut in stone and now drawn on a map. A small greeting to you who know where the World Heritage begins.
