About Tällberg
Tourist and visitor destination
On the shore of Siljan
Medieval farming village
At Holens gammelgård, Tällberg's long history is felt at once. The village sits beautifully on the heights above Siljan, between Leksand and Rättvik, and has its roots in the Middle Ages as a true Dalarna farming village. Generations lived off the land here before the place was transformed into something else entirely.
From the early twentieth century Tällberg became one of the most popular visitor and tourist destinations in Dalarna. Traces of the old village remain – the foundation stones after Axel Munthe are a reminder that famous guests were drawn here too, and from Digerberget the landscape spreads out down towards the water. If you want to get close to the lake, Hjortviken is a fine spot to seek out.
It is that very mix that makes Tällberg special: a farming village that became a tourist idyll without losing its heritage. Holens gammelgård stands as a bridge between then and now, and for anyone who has once wandered among the old cottages the feeling lingers long afterwards. A shirt with the village's map becomes a small way to carry with you the place where history and Siljan meet.
