Set between the coast and forested hills in Medelpad lies Sundsvall, the main town of its municipality and known as the Dragon Town – in summer the streets are lined with some thirty artistically shaped dragons. Business life has long been built on the forest industry, with SCA as the town's largest employer, but there are banks, insurance companies and IT here too.
The town is an obvious starting point for anyone travelling on. To the north lies the Birsta retail area, and not far off wait Sweden's geographical centre point and the High Coast World Heritage site. In town you find Sundsvall museum and the statue of Gustav II Adolf.
A street festival and a dragon boat festival fill the summer with life. Perhaps you wore the shirt on exactly that day – with the map's streets laid out as a memento of the whole Dragon Town, from the quay to the hills in the north.
