Where Mälaren meets the Baltic, on the boundary between Södermanland and Uppland, Sweden's capital spreads across islets and districts. Stockholm is the country's largest city and its cultural, political and economic heart – a place built on water where every bridge leads on to the next block.

Here you walk through the lanes of Gamla stan, look into the Moderna museet or the Nationalmuseum, and move between the Nobel Prize Museum and the Vasa Museum in one of the world's most museum-dense cities. The metro ties it all together, from the inner city out to the suburbs, and Stockholm Central sends the tracks on out across the country.
