About Sölvesborg
Sweden Rock Festival
The beech woods of Ryssberget
The fishing villages of Listerlandet
At the far south-western edge of Blekinge, close to the Skåne border, Sölvesborg spreads across the Sölvesborg peninsula and parts of Listerlandet. The town has roots in the Danish Middle Ages and counts as the smallest of the Blekinge towns. North of the centre rises Ryssberget with some of the country's largest continuous beech woods, and out towards the sea Listerlandet spreads with small fishing villages such as Hällevik, Hörvik and Djupekås. A little way out in the water rests the fabled island of Hanö.
Around the town there are traces of the past to stop at – Sölvesborg castle, Sölvesborg museum and the Lister Hundred courthouse are among the place's landmarks. Every summer the Sweden Rock Festival in the village of Norje also draws people from all over the world.
See the map and you may recognise the way down to the jetty, the smell of beech wood or the evenings by the sea. For anyone who grew up or took root here, it is those lines that stay.
