About Skanör Med Falsterbo
The Falsterbo peninsula
Medieval small towns
Falsterbobukten
At the far end of the Falsterbo peninsula in Skåne lie Skanör and Falsterbo, two medieval small towns that grew together in the 1960s but have stubbornly remained two all the same. They have been governed jointly since 1754, but the place-name sign with the combined name has never existed – in speech and in thought they are still separate. The boundary runs along a seaweed bank marked as an ancient monument between the natural areas of Flommen and Skanör's heath, with Falsterbo to the south and Skanör to the north.
Falsterbo museum tells of the district, while the remains of Falsterbohus castle and Skanör's fort bear witness to a time when the place was an important market. The Andreas Lundberga house belongs to the townscape, and all around the landscape spreads out – Falsterbo bay, the shore meadows and Skanör's northern sandbar with its nudist beach. Sky, sea and heath meet here in a way few other places in the country can match.
For anyone who grew up between dunes and seaweed banks, or learned to love the light out on the peninsula, this is more than a point on the map. A shirt with the map of Skanör with Falsterbo becomes a quiet nod to that feeling of having come home to the sea wind.
