About Piteå
A summer town
Pitepalt
The Piteå dialect
On the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia lies Piteå, a town that wakes to life when the light grows long and the nights almost never end. Around half of all summer tourism in Norrbotten happens here, and it shows in the pace - bathing, sea and long days mark the town when the season is at its best.
There is a clear local pride in what is their own: the Piteå dialect, which rings differently from everything else, and the pitepalt dumpling that few leave Piteå without tasting. All around, nature spreads out, and Sörfjärden frames the town with water close at hand. Outside the built-up area rises Markbygden, which is becoming one of Europe's largest onshore wind farms.
On the map you also find Piteå museum and the Insiktstornet viewpoint, places that gather memories from both travellers and those who have lived here all their lives. Perhaps it is the view from the tower that you carry with you - a reminder of sea, forest and a town where summer never quite feels over.
