The rune stone Frösöstenen stands as a memorial from a vanished age, right beside the sound that gave the town its name – the narrow Östersundet separating Frösön from the mainland. Östersund is Jämtland's only town, the county's residence town and the only Swedish town born in the 1700s, founded by Gustav III to bring order to the profitable Jämtland trade. For a long time it stayed small, but the arrival of the railway at the end of the 1800s made it a proper town.

Here by Storsjön the stories live on, from the legends of the Storsjön monster to the steamer M/S Thomée still working the waters. At Jamtli the history comes alive, and the town has long been a hub for winter sport with championships in biathlon and speed skating and the National Winter Sports Centre. That Östersunds FK played their way all the way to the Europa League put the town on the football map as well.

You who wear this shirt know what the middle of Sweden means – the snow, the lake and the pulse. Take Östersund with you wherever you go, as a quiet greeting to home waters.
