Known for

Döderhultarn's studio

At Döderhultsviken in northern Kalmarsund, the fishing village of Döderhultsvik grew into a market town and later a town, named after king Oskar. Today Oskarshamn is the third largest urban area in Kalmar County, a coastal town in the middle of the Småland landscape where the ferries put out for both Öland and Gotland.

At Döderhultarn's studio you meet the famous woodcarver's folk figures, while the Biological museum tells of the nature all around. Out at Badholmen you come close to the water, and Fredriksberg manor is among the town's older features. Furthest out in the sound rises Blå Jungfrun, the fabled rock island that has become a national park and given rise to countless legends.

Daily life here is marked by industry and sea side by side – Scania, the nuclear power station and Liljeholmen's candles all belong here, while the salt water is never far away. On the map t-shirt you follow the coastline around the bays and quays, where a ferry may be steering out for Gotland right now with Blå Jungfrun as a shadow on the horizon.
