About Örebro
Svampen, the water tower
The Shoe Town
Örebro University
Örebro spreads out on the western shore of Hjälmaren, in the middle of Närke, and has long been a place where trade, learning and everyday life meet. In the first half of the 1900s the town was called the shoe town for its many shoe factories, and to this day it pulses with industry, services and students from Örebro University.
Locals recognise the landmarks from far off. The water tower Svampen reaches above the town, while Örebro County museum and the Castle museum tell of the district. On a warm day people gather at the Alnäng bathing place or stroll through the greenery of Sveaparken. It is in these blocks that daily life is lived, coffee cup in hand and the calm water of the Svartån never far away.
If you have walked these streets or grew up in the shadow of the shoe town, Örebro is in you. The map across your chest becomes a small reminder of where you belong.
