The name Nykvarn was born in the 1500s, when a new works was established by the water – and in those days "kvarn", mill, meant roughly the same as a furnace or works. Here west of Södertälje the town grew up around ironworking, and Södermanland lies all around in forest and lake country.
Järndammen and Smedsbygget still recall the smelting and the hammer blows, while Rimsjön and Jägarskogen offer what makes the district this particular district. At Vidbynäs the manor landscape opens out, and an old rock carving holds an even older history in the stone.
It is in such details that a home takes shape – the dam, the lake, the paths you recognise. A shirt with the map of Nykvarn becomes a small way of taking the feeling of belonging right here with you.
