Known for

The Dala horse

At the Vasaloppet finish gate, a long string of tired skiers crosses the line every winter, and that is exactly where Mora takes its place on the map. The town lies nestled between the glittering water of Siljan and the blue hills, and serves as the main town of Mora municipality and as northern Dalarna's hub for trade and business.

The artist Anders Zorn was born here, and his home Zorngården with the adjoining Zorn museum draws visitors all year round. Around the town, landmarks appear such as the Zorn statue and the Vasa monument, while Vasaloppets Hus ties the whole skiing tradition together. It is a district where art, sport and lake landscape are woven together.

That Mora is also the home of the Dala horse is felt in every detail – the red-painted wooden figure is as much symbol as souvenir. A map of Mora carries the smell of pine forest on the shore of Siljan and the pulse of the finishing straight in March.
