Sámi history

Do you know the smells from the forests around Malåträsket? The community grew up around that lake, and for a long time the town even bore the lake's name. Here the Ume Sámi Máláge and South Sámi Maalege meet the Swedish history, an inheritance that still marks the district and its people.

Malå lies in Lapland, as the main town of Malå municipality, along county road 370 some way north of Lycksele. Around the town the waters spread out – Ljustjärnen, Grundtjärnen and Lilla Skäppträsket – while Tjamstanberget rises in the landscape. At the Geo museum the story of the bedrock and the mining district is told, and the outdoor life is literally on the doorstep, all the way out to Nölviken.

To you who wear this shirt: the map of Malå is more than lines and names, it is a reminder of the place that shaped you. Keep it with you, wherever you are.
