The Northern Main Line

On the shore of Kyrksjön lies Ljusdal, the main town of Ljusdal municipality and a town in the middle of the Hälsingland landscape. National road 83, which bears the resonant name Tidernas väg, the road of the ages, meets national road 84 here, while the Northern Main Line draws its track through the town and ties the district to the rest of the country.

It is the water that gives Ljusdal its character. Around the town lie lakes such as Vikarsjön and Borrsjön, and the smaller mirrors of Sjöbotjärnen and Kyrksjön leave their own marks on the map. At the Ljusdal district museum the story of the town and of Hälsingland is told, and the folkpark is among the places where local people have long gathered.

Recognising the lake system and the familiar road numbers on a piece of cloth does something to anyone who has once walked along Vikarsjön or waited for the train by the main line. The map t-shirt of Ljusdal catches exactly that mixture of water, railway and small tarns that makes the town precisely what it is.
