About Lidköping
Rörstrand porcelain
Vänern
The river Lidan
Rörstrand made Lidköping known far beyond the borders of Västergötland. The porcelain factory was founded in 1726, and although production ended in 2006 the inheritance lives on in the Rörstrand Museum and the factory shop. The town lies on Kinneviken, the south-eastern bay of Vänern, and is therefore sometimes called Lidköping vid Vänern so as not to be confused with Linköping.
The river Lidan cuts straight through the town and divides it in two – the old town in the east and the new town in the west, which were once two separate towns with a town hall each. On the new town's square stands the statue of Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie in front of his old hunting lodge. Perhaps you remember a walk through the cosy blocks, a visit to the Vänern museum or an afternoon among the veteran vehicles at Alf's motor museum.
For you who grew up here, or carry the place with you far away, the map of the Lidan and the two halves of town sits as a quiet recognition. You know exactly where the bridge runs and which side is which. This shirt is for anyone who will always call Lidköping home – wear it with the quiet pride a Vänern town deserves.
