About Lidingö
An archipelago island
Fjäderholmarna
Town privileges of its own
East of Stockholm, where the city meets the inner archipelago, lies Lidingö. The island is a town in its own right with old town privileges and at the same time an obvious part of the city - the main town spreads across the island's western and central parts, while the water is never far away. Around the main island gather smaller island groups such as Fjäderholmarna and Storholmen; together they make up the municipality.
There are traces here from many ages. A Bronze Age cairn bears witness that people have lived on the island a long time, and at Lidingö museum you can follow the threads back through history. Anyone moving about discovers details such as the Ögat viewpoint and the Music and Theatre Library - places that mix nature, art and daily life in the island's own way.
The fine thing about a map of Lidingö is that you see how the island hangs together with the sound, the bridges and the small islets around it. Every bay and headland finds room on the fabric, from the central blocks out towards Fjäderholmarna where the archipelago begins.
