About Höganäs
Höganäs jar ceramics
An old fishing village
Coal mines
At the A shaft much of Höganäs's history begins. Coal and clay were once dug out of the Skåne ground here, and it was the clay that gave rise to the ceramics that made the town known far beyond the municipality – not least the classic Höganäs jar. What was once a small fishing village on Öresund grew into a town where the mining industry marked both the work and the identity.
The traces remain today. At Höganäs Museum the story of coal, ceramics and the people behind them is told, while Höganäs Drejeri carries the craft onward with clay and hands. And when summer comes, both locals and visitors make their way down to Margreteberg sea baths, where the sea recalls the town's origins on the coast.
For anyone who grew up here the places sit in the memory: the smell of clay, the sound from the harbour, summer evenings by the water. The map of Höganäs catches exactly the streets and blocks you recognise – a piece of Skåne to keep close, wherever life takes you.
