Archipelago setting on Värmdön
Twenty kilometres east of Stockholm, along Farstaviken out on Värmdön, lies Gustavsberg. The town is the main town of Värmdö municipality and a place that has grown steadily over the years – neighbouring villages such as Mörtnäs, Hemmesta, Torsby and Grisslinge have gradually merged into a single built-up area around Torsbyfjärden.
It is the porcelain most people think of first, and the Gustavsberg Porcelain Museum keeps that heritage alive. But there is more to discover on the map: the Artipelag art gallery out by the water, the old Farsta burial ground and hidden corners such as Skeviks Grotta and Helvetespott for anyone who wants to head out into the countryside. Over the centuries the post-glacial uplift has shaped the landscape so that Farstalandet and Ormingelandet are joined today.
For anyone who grew up between the bays, or moved here and stayed, there is something familiar in seeing home drawn out in lines and names. The map becomes a reminder of everyday paths, summer swims and that feeling of belonging right here.
