About Eskilstuna
Industrial history
The Munktell Museum
The Eskilstunaån
Step into the Munktell museum and you quickly understand what Eskilstuna is about: inventions were developed and built here that mattered to the whole country's industrialisation. Heavy industry marked the town for a long time and lives on in both its streets and its stories.
The Eskilstunaån runs through the town, and along it you find places that still draw people today. Eskilstuna stadsmuseum and Eskilstuna konstmuseum tell of what has been and what is being made now, while the sculpture The Hand of God points towards the sky. The name itself carries history - after bishop Eskil, whose seat lay in the old Tuna. As the main town of the municipality and the largest town in Södermanland County, Eskilstuna is an obvious meeting place for the people of Sörmland.
For anyone who grew up here, or who returns again and again, the map becomes more than lines and names. It is the river's course, the museum blocks and the feeling of knowing exactly where you belong.
