Every design for Dorotea

By the Inlandsbanan railway and European route E45, roughly 170 kilometres north-east of Östersund, lies Dorotea – church village and main town of its municipality, with the South Sámi name Kraapohke. Its position in the middle of Lapland shows in the landscape all around, where water and forested heights frame the town.

Bergvattensjön spreads out beside the community, and a little further off Långtjärnen mirrors the sky. If you want to get above the treetops there are heights such as Fäbodberget, Storberget and Storforsberget to aim for, while the caravan museum draws anyone curious about a piece of travel history. From here national road 92 runs on towards Umeå.

For anyone who grew up between these lakes and hills, or often returns north, the lines of the map sit deeper than most would guess. A shirt with the map of Dorotea becomes a small piece of Lapland to keep with you – and a reminder of where you always belong.
