About Deje
A works community on the Klarälven
An old railway junction
Nedre Ullerud parish
By the flowing waters of the Klarälven, Deje grew up as a true works community, shaped by industry and hard work. The narrow-gauge NKlJ and the Bergslagsbanan once met here, making the town an important railway junction where goods and people changed tracks between the forest county and the wider world.
Deje spreads along both sides of the river in Nedre Ullerud parish, part of Forshaga municipality. Around the houses lie the quiet waters that gave the landscape its character – Smårissjön and Forstjärn, Igeltjärn and Grantjärnen, and not least Märrsprångan, names that stir recognition in anyone who has roamed the country hereabouts.
To see Deje drawn as a map is to see again the roads you cycled as a child, the river you fished in and the station that once pulsed with life. For anyone who grew up here or calls the district their own, every tarn and bend becomes a reminder of the weekdays and summers that shaped them. A map t-shirt of Deje keeps those memories close, even far from home.
