On the Dalälven, Borlänge spreads out as the largest town in Dalarna and a place where town and nature lie close together. The water shapes the town, and all around there are quieter corners to seek out – Tjärnasjön and the Lusmyran nature reserve draw anyone wanting to get away for a while. Outside the town rises Romme alpin, Sweden's largest ski resort beyond the mountains.
Borlänge has both learning and culture under one sky. Parts of Dalarna University are here, as is the head office of the Swedish Transport Administration. At the Framtidsmuseet a planetarium and an experiment workshop await, while Tunabygdens Gammelgård and the Geological museum tell of the district in their own way. The tenor Jussi Björling was born here too, a name Borlänge still carries with pride. And through the landscape winds the Sweden Solar System, which makes the great distances of space comprehensible on the ground.
For anyone who grew up between the river and the forest, the place settles into the body. A map of Borlänge across the chest becomes a small way of carrying that feeling of home with you, wherever you go.
