About Bjurholm
The Öreälven
The garden of the senses
The Nolaskog area
At the Bjurholm duck pond there is splashing on weekday afternoons, and a short walk away lies Sinnenas trädgård, the garden of the senses, where scents and colours take over. Life here is about what is near: the settler's stone that recalls how the district was first taken into use, and the memorial stone marking Bjurholm municipality. It is a main town with a calm pulse, where you recognise faces in the shop.
Bjurholm lies in the Nolaskog area of northern Ångermanland, in the southern part of Västerbotten County, some sixty kilometres west of Umeå. The Öreälven glides past just west of the community, and out at Lagnäset and Lappavan the landscape opens towards water and forest.
The Öreälven is the thread that ties the place together – anyone who grew up along its banks or fished its waters recognises it at once when the river's course appears on the shirt. A map t-shirt of Bjurholm becomes a way of keeping that small town with you, however far from home you end up.
