About Avesta
Iron and steel industry
The world's largest coin
The Döda Fallen dry falls
At the Myntmuseet in Avesta stands the largest coin in the world: a ten-daler plate coin weighing almost twenty kilos, struck here in the town. That says something about Avesta - a place with iron and steel in its marrow, but also with a history of copper and a mint of its own. Along the Dalälven in southern Dalarna, the town sits with both industrial heritage and nature on the doorstep.
In the middle of Avesta are the Döda Fallen, a landscape where mighty waterfalls once thundered before the river changed course. Here you also find the Dalahästen, Mörksuggan and Strömsborg - places locals recognise at once.
If you grew up or lived here, the lines of the map are already in your memory, from the river to the blocks where you moved about. A small way of keeping it with you.
