About Alvesta
Railway junction
The Southern Main Line
The Coast-to-Coast Line
Where the Southern Main Line crosses the Coast-to-Coast Line, Alvesta grew up — a Småland junction where the trains for Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg and Kalmar meet. The history sits in the name itself: the villages of Aringsås and Alfvesta merged into one place when the railway was pushed through the district, and the station became the hub everything turned around.
The town lies in Kronoberg County, some eighteen kilometres west of Växjö, surrounded by water and forest. Lillsjön and Romasjön mirror the sky close by, while the Hjortsbergaån and Lekarydsån wind through the landscape. In the Björnholmarna nature reserve the forest is left to itself, and at Kronobergs lantbruksmuseum the farming past lives on.
Trace a line along the tracks on the map and you follow the same routes that once made Alvesta a place travellers stopped at. The shirt carries the crossing lines and the lakes that still frame the town.
