Warta Zawiercie volleyball
The Warta, one of Poland's main rivers, rises in Kromołów, a district of Zawiercie, and the town's name comes from the old phrase for the land behind the Warta. Ironworking here goes back to the fifteenth century, but Zawiercie stayed a small village until the Warsaw–Vienna railway arrived and turned it into an industrial town.
Pałacyk Szymańskiego and Kościół pw. Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła stand for the older layers, while ironworks and a foundry still shape the working week. Park Miejski w Zawierciu and the Tężnia solankowa are where people slow down. Zawiercie calls itself the gateway to the Jura, the starting point for trails into the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and its castles, and on match days the town turns out for its volleyball club, Warta Zawiercie.
If you know where the trails begin and where the river starts, you are from Zawiercie. Take it with you.
