At the corner of Krupówki and Kościuszko Streets, the centre of Zakopane, the Tatra Mountains fill one end of the view and Gubałówka rises at the other. This is the winter capital of Poland and the centre of Goral culture, a town of skiers, climbers and walkers at the foot of the highest peaks in the country.
What makes it unique is its height: Zakopane is Poland's highest and southernmost town, and part of the Tatra National Park lies within its borders. A distinct Zakopane style was born here and is still visible in the Muzeum Stylu Zakopiańskiego w Willi Koliba and the Willa Pod Jedlami, while the Gmach Główny Muzeum Tatrzańskiego im. dra Tytusa Chałubińskiego tells the story of the mountains and the Muzeum Karola Szymanowskiego w Willi Atma remembers the composer.
