Village high street
Duivenvoorde estates
Vlietland lakes
Squeezed between the railway on one side and the Vliet canal on the other, Voorschoten is held in by its neighbours: Leiden to the north, Wassenaar to the west and Leidschendam-Voorburg to the south and east.
For all that, it sits in one of the most densely populated corners of the country and still feels like a village. To the south and west the green belt of the Duivenvoorde corridor keeps the fields open, with old estates such as Buitenplaats Beresteijn and Castle Duivenvoorde nearby, while Vlietland is where summer weekends happen. The heart of town is the Voorstraat, a long market street with its village pump, old lime trees and gas lanterns; Floris V granted the market rights in 1282. Most people here commute to The Hague or Leiden, and the British School brings a large community of British families. Museum Voorschoten tells the rest.
If you learned to cycle under those lime trees and spent your summers at Vlietland, this map is for you. Wherever you are now, it puts you back on the Voorstraat.
