Railway heritage
On race night at Vojens Speedway Center, the noise of the bikes carries across the whole railway town. The track has hosted world finals and the Speedway Grand Prix of Denmark, and it is part-owned by Ole Olsen, the country's first triple world champion. Frøs Arena is home ice for SønderjyskE Ishockey, who play in the top Danish league.
Fonden Brødrene Grams historiske arkiv og museum tells the other big story in town. Brødrene Gram began as a small machine workshop and grew into a maker of fridges and freezers with dealers across the world. Vojens itself grew around the railway: it became a junction when the branch line to Haderslev opened, and that old line still runs with heritage trains and rail bikes. Vojens Kirke is a reunion church from the years after Southern Jutland returned to Denmark, with a red chapel in the middle of its older churchyard. Fugleparken and Bronzealderhuset are on the map too, and Vojens Airport sits in a corner of the Skrydstrup air base.
Skrydstruppigens grav and the speedway track sit on the same map, one quiet and one loud. Wearing Vojens means wearing both.
