Métro lines
Line 14 surfaces at Villejuif–Gustave Roussy, and with it comes the town's daily crowd: staff and patients for the hospitals, students for the engineering and biotech schools, commuters heading into Paris. Villejuif sits seven kilometres from the centre of the capital, high on a plateau that looks down on its neighbours, and three stations on Line 7 tie it to the city as well.
The Redoute des Hautes Bruyères stands on the highest point in Val-de-Marne, in the park of the same name. Around it the town divides into the upper town on the plateau and the lower town on the slopes. The Institut Gustave Roussy, an oncology hospital, the Hôpital Paul-Brousse and the Paul Guiraud hospital shape the rhythm of the week, while the Exploradôme and the Musée de l'Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris add museums to the mix. The name itself goes back to a papal bill of 1119, which calls the place Villa Judea.
For anyone who grew up here, the map holds the walk up to the Hautes-Bruyères and the metro stops that led into Paris.
