River Verdalselva

Verdalsøra was given town status by its own municipal council, a town at the mouth of the river Verdalselva where it runs into the Trondheimsfjord. Stiklestad lies a short way to the east, Vinne to the south-east, Trones to the north, and Forbregd and Lein along the lake Leksdalsvatnet.

Ørin naturreservat and Langnes naturreservat keep wild ground close to the streets, and just south of town the beach at Rinnleiret runs down to the border with Levanger. The oldest and largest part of Verdalsøra lies north of the river, around Verdal Station, where the Nordland Line passes through alongside the E6, and parks such as Kvislaparken and Jernbaneparken give the town its green spaces. Down by the water, the big Aker Verdal shipyard and a modern harbour keep the town working, along with the dairy and the older factories in the centre.

For those who went to Verdal Upper Secondary School, or simply grew up on Øra, as people call it, the map is home ground: the river mouth, the station, the shipyard and the long walk out to Rinnleiret.
