Every design for Vejen

Vejen lies on the railway between Kolding and Esbjerg, in the Region of Southern Denmark, and the line has shaped it from the start. It grew as a railway town, and InterCity trains still stop at its station on their way to Copenhagen and Esbjerg. Today it is the main town of a municipality that brings together Rødding, Brørup and Holsted, and that reaches across the old border into Sønderjylland.

Talk to people who grew up here and you hear quiet pride in what a small town has produced. The sculptor and ceramist Niels Hansen Jacobsen was born in Vejen, and so was Ingrid Vang Nyman, who illustrated the Pippi Longstocking books. The town's food industry, with Danish Crown, Eurofins Steins Laboratorium and the fish producer Aquapris, is a major employer. Vejen Anlæg is the town park, and artworks such as Troldespringvandet and Moder Jord turn up around town.

Then there is Vejen Kunstmuseum, which specialises in art from the end of the nineteenth century, Symbolism and Art Nouveau above all. A town with a museum like that at its heart is worth wearing.
