Railway town
Tranbjerg Church has stood here since the later part of the twelfth century, a typical old Danish village church dedicated to Saint Ursula and her eleven thousand handmaidens. When the railway station opened, the village became a railway town, with industry, better trade for local farmers and Tranbjerg Kro close behind.
For many who live here, Tranbjerg means football: AIA-Tranbjerg began as a local branch of the Aarhus workers' club and the game has been at the heart of it ever since. The cooperative store, Tranbjerg Brugsforening, opened in the same year, and Kvickly now stands where its headquarters once was. Tranbjerg is a suburb of Aarhus today, but it keeps its own centre in Center Syd, ancient ground at Kukhøj, the Spejdermuseet Århus scout museum and a "J" for Jutland in its official name that nobody actually says.
Step off at Tranbjerg Station after a day in the city, and the short walk to Kirketorvet is the walk home.
