Limfjorden
Thisted Bryghus
Bronze Age mound
Thisted takes its name from the god Tyr, the place devoted to Tyr, and it sits on the northern shore of Thisted Bredning, the stretch of Limfjorden between Thy and the island of Mors. It is the largest town in north-west Jutland and the heart of Thy, built across three ridges divided by two streams, with the harbour and the fjord at its feet.
For anyone from Thy, Thisted is bound up with memories of ordinary days: errands in town, the hospital, the train to Struer. It is also a town that wears its age lightly. A rune stone naming the chieftain Tord Amdisøn is set into the foot of the church tower, traces of a medieval trading place lie beneath Storetorv and Storegade, and Langdaas, the largest Bronze Age burial mound in Denmark, is right here in Thisted.
Thisted Museum, the organic beer from Thisted Bryghus, the artwork Thistedpigen: small things, but they add up to the town people keep coming back to. When the fjord opens up ahead of you, you know you are home.
