Grupa Azoty
On a small square in the centre, the Bima Starej Synagogi – the surviving bimah of the Old Synagogue – stands on its own small square. Tarnów is that kind of city: everyday life passes among layers of history, in an Old Town of 16th-century tenements, houses and defensive walls that has been preserved. Locals stroll past the Dom Mikołajowski w Tarnowie and the Muzeum Diecezjalne w Tarnowie without a second thought, and the Mauzoleum Bema stands in the Strzelecki park.
Tarnów lies in southeastern Poland, where the Biała flows into the Dunajec, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is a major rail junction on the strategic line from Lviv to Kraków, with a branch towards the Slovak border, and it is the warmest city in Poland, with the highest long-term average temperature in the country. Grupa Azoty, Poland's largest chemical company, has its headquarters here, in the district of Mościce.
If you grew up under Tarnów's warm skies, this map is a small way of keeping the market square, the walls and the old streets with you wherever you are.
