Heart of Søgne
Høllesanden
River Søgneelva
Tangvall lies along the river Søgneelva and the E39, just north of Åros and Høllen, with Eik to the south-west and Lunde to the west. Together with Langenes these villages form the urban area known as Søgne, and Tangvall is the largest of them: the place with the town hall, the library, the high school and the shops.
What people remember is how quickly it has grown. When the administrative centre of the old Søgne Municipality moved here from Lunde, Tangvall became the heart of things, and new apartment blocks, cafés and businesses have kept arriving ever since. Søgne was a municipality of its own until it merged into Kristiansand, and the Søgne-skiltet still spells out the name many people use first. The Old Søgne Church stands at the south-eastern edge of the urban area, Søgne gamle prestegård keeps the older story, and Rannesheia and Vardeheia are the lookouts above it all.
Whether you still say Tangvall or simply Søgne, and whether your summers were spent on Høllesanden or along the river, this map is yours.
