Station town
Taastrup Hovedgade
DSB headquarters
Taastrup was once Thorstenstorp. The old name joins the man's name Thorsten to the word torp, a settlement, and the double-a spelling on every sign today is the town's own choice to return to the older form. Taastrup is the Copenhagen suburb that grew up around its railway station, which for years was called Køgevejens Station after the old road close by, while the villages of Valby and Klovtofte slowly grew together into one town. DSB, the national railway company, has its headquarters here.
Røjlegrøften Naturpark and Selsmosen bring green space close to busy Taastrup Hovedgade, where most of the shops line the street. Byhistorisk Samling keeps the story of the station town, and beyond it the municipality opens out into Vestskoven, Hedeland and protected bogs.
Then there is Snubbekorset by Snubbekors Høj, the kind of local landmark that only means something if you know it, which is exactly why Taastrup deserves a place on a shirt.
