Lublin Airport
Świdnik lies about 10 kilometres from Lublin, so close that it is often called the city's satellite town, and Lublin's airport sits on its own doorstep.
Everyday life here is shaped by that place on the map. The town stands on the Płaskowyż Świdnicki, a plateau of the Lublin Upland, with the Las Świdnicki on its western edge and the lakes of the Łęczna–Włodawa Lakeland within easy reach. Its main street, Niepodległości, is lined with trees, and the centre is built of low socialist-realist blocks. The railway came in 1877, and the Stary dworzec Świdnik, a red-brick station from the early twentieth century, is the oldest public building in town. Its microclimate once made it a spa, and wooden villas from those years still stand. Then came the WSK PZL Świdnik works, home of the Mi-2 helicopter, and on the grassy airfield a protected colony of speckled ground squirrels.
If Świdnik is yours, you know the sound of rotor blades over the trees. Keep it close.
