About Struer

Bang & Olufsen

Known for

Railway junction

Known for

Limfjorden

Struer faces Venø Bugt on the southwest side of Limfjorden, with a marina close to the town centre. It began as a landing place for Holstebro, but the railway changed everything: the town grew fast and became one of the most important railway junctions in Denmark, and part of its station is among the oldest in the country. Later it was granted the status of a købstad, a merchant town.

There is a hum of pride in a town where so many neighbours make the same famous thing. Bang & Olufsen started at Quistrup, the old family farm of Svend Olufsen just south of town, and the company remains the most important business in Struer. Out in the fjord, the island of Venø holds the smallest church in Denmark, reached by a short ferry crossing.

Struer Museum, once the home of the poet Johannes Buchholtz, shows old and new Bang & Olufsen products alongside famous Danish design furniture. A town that gave the world that kind of sound and design is worth wearing.
