Stjørdalshalsen is best known to travellers as the town beside Trondheim Airport, Værnes, where the E6 and the E14 meet, and just south of it lies the railway junction at Hell with its Hell Sign. Locals simply call it Halsen. It sits between the rivers Stjørdalselva and Gråelva, where they reach the Trondheimsfjord.
Its character comes from that mix of busy hub and fjord-side calm. Industry here ranges from mineral products and glassware to plastics and food, the operational management for the Heidrun field has its offices in town, and so does the Central Norway Regional Health Authority. Yet Storvika and Reppesleiret naturreservat are close at hand, and Stjørdal museum Værnes keeps the story of the old farm the town grew up beside, where the first shore dwellers settled.
When the plane comes in over the Trondheimsfjord and the two rivers show up below the wing, you are already home.
