Tertitten railway
No. 91 Stomperud
Oldest boat
At Sørumsand station, No. 91 Stomperud keeps watch beside the old line, and the cartoon soldier is very much one of the village's own. The line is Tertitten, the museum railway that runs from here to Fossum, the surviving end of Urskog-Hølandsbanen, and the reason Sørumsand is a railway town at heart. The village itself grew up around its station on the Kongsvingerbanen, beside the Glomma, with Fetsund to the south and Lillestrøm further on.
There is a sense of deep time along the Glomma. Below Bingsfossen, at Hammeren, Norway's oldest boat was found: Sørumbåten, a hollowed-out oak log. On the west bank are well-known rock carvings, and closer to home Barvika, Kuskerudparken and Generasjonsparken are where summer evenings go.
If you grew up waving at Tertitten, this map is yours.
