Pałac Prymasowski
railway junction
Where does Skierniewice end and Puszcza Bolimowska begin? The forest wraps around the north of the town as part of a landscape park, Las Zwierzyniecki marks part of the western boundary, and the Rawka and the Łupia, also called the Skierniewka, run through the area.
The town sits on the plain of central Poland, almost exactly halfway between Warsaw and Łódź, and it is a railway junction on the main line between them. Skierniewice is known as the Polish capital of horticultural sciences, a tradition that goes back more than a century, and it hosts an annual festival of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Parowozownia Skierniewice keeps the age of steam alive.
Then there is Pałac Prymasowski, where the Primates of Poland once kept their residence and where the Enlightenment poet Ignacy Krasicki lived. For many, that palace is where Skierniewice begins, which is reason enough to wear its streets.
