Firda school
Sandane is the village of Lovleg, the NRK P3 series about pupils at Firda Upper Secondary School, many of whom live away from home in rented rooms here. Founded in 1922 as Firda Gymnas, the school gives the village a young pulse, while Heradshuset, the old municipal hall with its four-faced clock tower, keeps the centre anchored, and Gloppen Hotell counts among Norway's historic hotels.
The village lies at the end of the Gloppefjorden along the European route E39, 20 kilometres south of Nordfjordeid, with Sandane Airport, Anda, a short drive away. Quays line the waterfront, the land rises steeply to the north, and the residential areas spread out over Åsen to the south and Leirbrekka to the northwest. Bukta fuglefredingsområde shelters birds south of the river, Nordfjord folkemuseum gathers old houses from across Nordfjord at Jølet, and the lake Breimsvatn, the Myklebustbreen glacier and Jostedalsbreen National Park are all within reach.
Coming back down the E39 and seeing the clock tower of Heradshuset at the end of the fjord is, for many, the moment Sandane becomes home again.
