Many boroughs

Do you say you are from Lebenstedt, from Salzgitter-Bad or from Thiede before you say Salzgitter? Then you know how this city works: a cluster of compact towns and villages with wide stretches of open country between them, gathered into one of the largest cities by area in Lower Saxony.
Schloss Salder, home to the Museum Schloss Salder, is the place where the area's older history lives, long before the city existed. Salzgitter itself is young, founded in the middle of the Second World War and renamed only later from Watenstedt-Salzgitter; the old name now belongs to a tiny borough. People came here from all over to work, and many families of immigrants have made it their home. Weekends lead out to the Salzgittersee, with its regatta tower and water-ski cable, or up into the Salzgitter Hills, where the Hamberg is the highest point.
The Turm der Arbeit stands for what built the place. Wear it, and you wear every borough at once.
