A round giant's kettle has been ground deep into the rock of Kullavuori, the highest point in the south of Rusko. From up there the land falls away to the fields of the Ruskonjoki valley, cleared for farming before the first written records, and far to the north the municipality reaches into Kurjenrahka National Park, whose protected bogs cross into Rusko alongside the Rehtisuo mire.

What sets Rusko apart is how close it sits to Turku and how firmly it keeps its own village heart. The church village has grown into the city's urban area, yet the grey-stone church still stands on its hill among stone bridges, old farmhouses and a parish granary, a setting listed as a built environment of national importance. Broad gravel ridges hold generous groundwater, and Kuhankuono, the northernmost point, is a single boundary stone shared by seven municipalities.

The former municipality of Vahto joined Rusko and brought its coat of arms with it, and the hills of the north, Ahivuori, Kaharinvuori and Päällistönmäki, give the map its texture. Rindellin Mäkitupamuseo and Ketosen Torppa keep the cottagers' world intact: small, solid and well worth carrying on a shirt.
