Where on Funen do you go when you say you are going home to the middle of the island? For a lot of people the answer is Ringe, a town at the heart of Funen and the seat of Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality, even though the municipality carries Faaborg's name.
Mention Ringe and many think of the lake first. Ringe Sø is a shallow lake left behind when a glacier melted after the last ice age, and it is home to red-necked grebes, coots, moorhens, mallards and greylag geese. The town keeps its history in plain sight too. Ringe Kirke dates from the Middle Ages and is still in use for concerts, weddings and baptisms, and Ringe Museum fills a building first put up as a school, with historic weapons and craftsmen's tools. The juice maker Rynkeby Foods has its main office here, and the manors of Rynkebygård and Lammehave and the mounds at Knudshøje lie nearby.
