wartime resistance

Radomsko is known as the town where congresses of Polish nobles chose Princess Jadwiga to rule as the country's first female monarch. Queen Jadwiga, whose marriage to Władysław II Jagiełło founded the Jagiellonian dynasty, is now the town's patron saint, and the townspeople have not forgotten the part their town played.

Muzeum Regionalne im. Stanisława Sankowskiego sits in the Romantic-style town hall, and from there the town's long story unfolds. Radomsko was a royal town of the Sieradz Land, granted its privileges in the thirteenth century, and it grew rich as a trading centre where important routes crossed. King Ladislaus the Short funded the Gothic Franciscan church, and the town took part in the uprisings against Russian rule. During the Second World War the resistance here was so strong that the occupiers called it Banditenstadt, the City of Bandits. The Jewish cemetery with the ohel of the Rabinowicz tzaddiks is what remains of a large community.

Park Świętojański, Park "Glinianki" and the pomnik św. Jadwigi Królowej are the familiar corners of the place. However far away you live, this is where you belong.
