Dworek Poniatówka
One of the oldest towns in Masovia, Piaseczno is a former royal town that grew out of a medieval village on the road between Warsaw and Czersk. Its strategic position brought it a town charter in the Middle Ages and made it a busy local market. In the eighteenth century a Baroque royal palace rose here for the hunting trips of Augustus III, and during the Kościuszko Uprising the Russians burned the town, leaving only a church and a handful of houses standing.
Dworek Poniatówka tells a later chapter. Countess Cecylia Plater-Zyberk bought the Chyliczki estate with its manor house, settled there and went on to found a school for girls that became known across the country. The Muzeum Regionalne w Piasecznie keeps the town's longer story, while Dwór Regnerówka and Lokomotywownia II add their own layers. On the market square, the classicist town hall still wears a crescent on its tower, in memory of a visit by the Turkish envoy Numan-Bej.
Today Piaseczno sits just south of Warsaw, a fast-growing residential town on the Jeziorka. For anyone who grew up here, the map holds the river, the square and every walk home from the station.
